Gone for a Burton
No, gone for the key. It was locked but the churchwarden lived nearby and kindly opened up for us. 'The Buildings of Wales: Pembrokeshire' (Lloyd, T.; Orbach, J.; and Scourfield, R. pp136/7: New Haven; Yale University Press; 2004) describes St Mary's Church as "a rewarding church. Set in a large sloping churchyard with an unusually broad, tapering tower, slightly jettied over the nave roof" Inside the church, on a pillar by the organ is a carved likeness of John Lloyd, Bishop of St Davids from 1686 to 1687, who was Rector here from 1672 until his elevation to the episcopate.
