Gosport Millennium Footbridge :: Shared Description

The bridge was built in 2000 as part of the Millennium project. It crosses Forton Lake and allows access between Gosport and Priddy's Hard.
The Gosport Millennium Bridge is a bascule bridge designed for pedestrians and cyclists.
The Bridge is 180m long with a lifting span of 17m. The counterweight allows the bridge to lift following a pair of gracefully curved runners. The bridge deck weighs 28 tonnes, and the counterweight is 23 tonnes. This allows the bridge to be powered by only two 3kw motors. The whole lifting operation takes only 5 mins, and another 5 mins to return.
