Beverley Beck
Beverley Beck was originally a tidal tributary of the River Hull. It is about 1.3km long and was made navigable up to Beverley by 1344. The navigation of the Beck was improved over the centuries by scouring and straightening. In 1802 The Beverley and Barmston Drain was constructed to drain land west of Beveley. This lead to Grovehill Lock being constructed where the Beck meets the River Hull to allows the Drain to pass under the Beck. Water levels in the Beck have been maintained since 1898 by pumping from the river, Commercial use of the Beck continued until well into the 1970s and it is still in use by some pleasure craft.
