Hobson's Conduit Repairs 2020
The following information is a direct transcribe of a notice on the railings outside the Botanic Garden put up at the time by the Hobson's Conduit Trust.
"The bank of Hobsons's Conduit has suffered damage and water has been leaking into the Botanic Garden.
Work is now taking place with experienced local contractor Miles Water Engineering Ltd to achieve a permanent repair to the bank. Work is expected to continue until late summer of 2020.
This will involve inserting steel piling into a trench to be dug out along the bank. The piling will be covered over and re-planting will be undertaken in due course by the University Botanic Garden.
At the same time, the opportunity is being taken to remove part of the large quantity of silt that has built up over many decades in Hobson's Conduit. This will be used to re-build the bank. Part of the silt will be left in place in the Conduit for ecological reasons.
Cambridge City Council is participating, and all possible steps are being taken to preserve this historic site's ecology and heritage."
