The Great Ouse in Flood, 26 Dec. 2020 :: Shared Description

Heavy rain over much of the Midlands in the days before Christmas resulted in very high river levels and much flooding on the Great Ouse, and other rivers. On Christmas Day 2020, following several days of heavy rain, 1300 people in the Bedford area were advised to evacuate as the Great Ouse was flooding and more was expected with the arrival of Storm Bella, which brought 50mm [2in.] rain and 110kph [70 mph] winds. Emergency assistance centres were set up at the Bedford International Athletic Stadium and Bromham Village Hall. At Bromham, just upstream from Bedford, the river was reported to be flowing at its highest recorded level. These pictures were taken from or near Longholme Bridge, at the eastern end of The Embankment.
