Fire stations

The Great Fire of London in 1666 began the standardization of firefighting in Britain. The first fire insurance company was established a year later by Nicholas Barbon. Soon a series of companies were putting up plaques around the country but their employees would not touch a rival fire! The London Fire Brigade was formed 1833 to put an end to this haphazard system. The first station being built at Watling Street in the City of London.
