Shared description
The Wards of the City of London
The City of London is divided into 24 wards, each no more than a few acres. In the past these governed life within that small area. They were traditionally made up of craftsmen from the surrounding businesses. Each year one alderman was elected to be Lord Mayor of the City of London (a completely different office from the modern municipal Mayor of London) The Mayor-making ceremony is capped by a big parade around The City on the 2nd Saturday in November.
