Quite simply, the best shops in the world. Yes we now have books available on line and that's great. But...
But how do you know what you want to buy until you see it? There is nothing, simply nothing (to paraphrase Ratty from 'The wind in the Willows') quite so much fun as browsing in a bookshop.
They have existed since Athenian times. Caxton gave them a bit of a boost in the 15th Century and not even Jeff Bezos will snuff them out completely.
Long live the bookshop!
