Kerrycroy, Isle of Bute

According to HES, Kerrycroft was created by the 2nd Marquess of Bute in the early C19th (around 1803) to please his English wife, (the former) Lady Guildford. However, this cannot be quite right as (a) John Crichton-Stuart did not become 2nd Marquess of Bute until 1814 and (b) though he married twice, neither of these was Lady Guildford from what I can ascertain.
Anyway, this little village was certainly a planned 'English' style village and is symmetrical in an arc around a village green.
To quote part of the HES listing:
"Aiming to remodel the small community clustered at their gates, the Marquess and his wife also provided an inn - placing it at the centre of the open crescent, with views towards the sea. Inspired by the idea of an English hamlet, subsequent development resulted in the building of 2 half-timbered Old English style houses complete with red tile roofs and gabled dormers. Although an obvious contrast with the nearby single storey cottages and relatively stark inn, care was taken to respect the original layout, thereby enhancing the image of a community clustered around a village green. The addition of a maypole increased the sense of Englishness. By 1907, Kerrycroy was capable of supporting a school (the former inn), a post-office, tea-room and grocer's shop"
The houses are numbered 1 to 14 and all are Category 'B' listed, except (for a reason that I don't know) numbers 2 & 9.
