Woburn Park

Woburn Park is a huge area of parkland to the east of the small town of Woburn in Bedfordshire. It surrounds Woburn Abbey the ancestral home of the Dukes of Bedford. The northern section of the park is now used as the Woburn Safari Park LinkExternal link while the southern section is a deer park nearer the Abbey itself. A minor road cuts across the centre of the park roughly dividing these two sections.
The Red Deer (Cervus elaphus) are actually farmed - see LinkExternal link but run effectively wild over the (non-safari) park.
The park extends to c.1200 hectares (nearly 3,000 acres or over 4½ square miles) and is an EH Grade I listed park LinkExternal link
There are public footpaths including the Greensand Ridge Walk LDP across the southern section of the park. There are also several estate roads, though many of these are not of use by the public. Public access is also discouraged beyond the prescribed paths as this is the deer reserve, and there is also the risk of deer ticks (signs warn of this hazard on entering the park).
