Before Abbey Road there was Teme Street
However, during the six months following the booking the Beatles had risen to the cusp of international fame. Since the booking the Beatles had already undertaken two UK tours in 1963, rising up the bill as their fame grew. They had also appeared on the ITV pop show 'Thank Your Lucky Stars', their first appearance being on 17 February 1963 when they mimed to their second single release 'Please Please Me'. There was some doubt whether the Beatles would appear, but Brian Epstein, ever the gentleman, insisted they should honour the booking. Within days of the gig their third single 'From Me to You' topped the singles chart, and the Beatles' first LP, 'Please Please Me' which had just been released would go on to top the album charts for 30 weeks, only to be knocked off the top spot by their second album, 'With the Beatles', which went on to be No 1 for a further 21 weeks.
Three days earlier the Beatles had played the Cavern in Liverpool; three days later they played London's Royal Albert Hall. And on the day before, 14 April, the Beatles met the Rolling Stones for the first time, after being in the audience at the Stones' gig at the Crawdaddy Club in the Station Hotel in Richmond, Surrey.
