The Newport Centre

The Newport Centre is a leisure complex that was opened in 1985. It housed a swimming pool, multi-purpose sports hall and gym together with facilities for concerts, conferences and exhibitions. For many years it hosted the Welsh Open snooker tournament. The Centre was closed in early 2020 due to the Covid pandemic but part of the premises were then used for several months as a mass vaccination location. It became apparent that significant costs would be incurred in reopening the pool and maintaining the other facilities. Plans were then drawn up and proposals submitted to demolish the centre and use the site for buildings for a city centre campus for Coleg Gwent. A new new leisure and well-being centre will be created at a nearby site on the riverfront.

About shared descriptions

These Shared Descriptions are common to multiple images.

For example, you can create a generic description for an object shown in a photo, and reuse the description on all photos of the object. All descriptions are public and shared between contributors, i.e. you can reuse a description created by others, just as they can use yours.
