Devonport railway station

There were once two Devonport stations: one belonged to the London and South Western Railway, opened in 1876 and closed in 1964 (the City College is now on its site) and one on the Great Western Railway, opened in 1859, and still in use today.

From 1948 (i.e. on nationalisation) the GWR station was called Devonport Albert Road, and the ex-LSWR one Devonport Kings Road, to distinguish what were then both under the control of British Railways.

In 1968 the ex-GWR station reverted to just being 'Devonport'. Since then it has been unstaffed, and the original station buildings and footbridge have been removed, with a modern footbridge (but no lift yet) giving access to the up platform. It is served by local trains to Liskeard, St Budeaux and Gunnislake, as well as occasional longer distance trains.

About shared descriptions

These Shared Descriptions are common to multiple images.

For example, you can create a generic description for an object shown in a photo, and reuse the description on all photos of the object. All descriptions are public and shared between contributors, i.e. you can reuse a description created by others, just as they can use yours.
