Church of St Andrew, Kildwick
St Andrew's Kildwick is one of Yorkshire's more significant parish churches. Known as the 'Lang Kirk of Craven' and allegedly possessing the longest nave of any parish church in England, it is out of proportion for the size of the community it served (165 feet), owing to Kildwick being a Grange of Bolton Abbey and on the monastic route into Lancashire.
Dating largely from the 14th century (with fragments possibly as early as the 10th), at the Reformation Henry VIII granted Kildwick to Christ Church, Oxford, which may have helped ensure its survival intact. Extended C16-C17, repaired and re-ordered 1864-75 and extensively restored 1901-03. Listed grade I (list entry 1132175).
Since the building of the bypass, the church is somewhat of a backwater as far as passing road traffic is concerned, but is adjacent to the Leeds and Liverpool Canal and well worth a diversion.
