Cleland Street Railway Bridge Murals

The little used City Union Railway line, which runs between Shields Junction and Bellgrove, crosses Cleland Street by means of this bridge near the junction with Laurieston Road.

The installation by artist Liz Peden, of Gorbals Arts Project, is known as 'The Seven Arches'. The blind arches on the north abutment feature photographs of famous locals, namely sculptor Hannah Frank, boxer Benny Lynch, and detective Allan Pinkerton. An antique map which shows the birthplace of each is also included.

The blind arches on the south abutment contain rusted steel plates which bear quotes related to each of the historic figures.
