Serpentine Gallery Pavilion 2024

Each summer the Serpentine Gallery commissions a pavilion as a cafe and performance space - by a renowned architect with no previous work in the United Kingdom. This year it is by Minsuk Cho from South Korea. Most years there has been one central structure, this year there is a central circular open space with five buildings around it. The largest is "Auditorium", benches on its inner walls, a space for consuming refreshments and watching performances and talks. The "Tea House" is the servery for coffee and cakes. The "Play Tower" has nets to climb. The "Gallery" has a sound installation, music by Jang Young-Gyu incorporating sounds recorded in Kensington Gardens. Finally "The Library of Unread Books" houses donated books.
