King Charles III England Coast Path from Waren Mill to Elwick
The creation of the King Charles III Coast Path has changed the situation. The existing informal path which keeps to the coast has now received official recognition as part of the new National Trail and passage over the sluice at Ross Low has been enabled (a vital link) - but with one important proviso. Budle Bay, Ross Back Sands and Fenham Flats all form part of Lindisfarne National Nature Reserve and is of great importance for nature conservation. Access to the path which keeps directly to the coast between Waren Mill and Elwick Bird Hide is restricted to the months of June and July (the period which will cause the least disturbance to bird life). For the rest of the year, the path is routed well inland past Belford Station, Easington and Elwick; a route which unfortunately includes some 5 miles of quiet tarmac road.
