Holy Island (Firth of Clyde)

One of several islands around the British coast known as "Holy Island" this one is just off the coast of Arran in the Firth of Clyde. It is situated in Lamlash Bay and a small passenger ferry run by Lamlash Cruises can be taken to the island from Lamlash - but be prepared for a shock when you see the price of the short trip! It is home to a Buddhist retreat and a "centre for world peace and health". The owners welcome visitors to the island provided that they conform to the "Five golden rules" - see LinkExternal link
Despite its small size it contains a genuine mountain (i.e. over 1000') and a disproportionate population giving it a population density of 31/mile² (12/km²).
