The Bute Mausoleum

Built in the late 18th century as a resting place for the Marquesses of Bute, this small Category A Listed building LinkExternal link is located in the graveyard behind the High Kirk of Rothesay at Townhead.

Historic Environment Scotland describes it as follows...

"An interesting sructure, severely weatherbeaten. Walker describes the building as "...rudely eclectic", combining "...baroque broken pediments, Gothick tracery and six squat neo-classical obelisk finials." "
