Shieling hut :: Shared Description

If it was a shieling hut, this small dwelling would have been occupied in mid-summer, when herds were being pastured on high grazing land. I will add that the ruin is very similar in shape and situation to several lime-kiln ruins located elsewhere on the Murroch Burn, and that there is a limestone source nearby (cementstone nodules eroding from the slopes beside the burn); the identification as a shieling hut is made in the following report: LinkExternal link (at Canmore).
