Prince’s Dock, Kingston upon Hull

The dock opened in 1829 as Junction Dock, so-named because it was constructed between the Old Dock (later, Queen’s Dock) and Humber Dock. In 1855, it was renamed Prince's Dock in honour of a visit to the town by Queen Victoria and Albert, Prince Consort. The dock closed in 1968. The dock still exists but without the former lock connection to Humber Dock. The Princes Quay shopping centre, opened in 1991, was built over part of the dock on stilts.

About shared descriptions

These Shared Descriptions are common to multiple images.
