Royal Company of Archers
The Royal Company of Archers is the Sovereign's Bodyguard for Scotland, founded in 1676 as a society for practising the sport of archery. It gained recognition by Royal Charter in 1704 and was appointed as the Sovereign's Bodyguard for Scotland in 1822. Nowadays archery continues in contests held in a number of Scottish towns and cities, and with a major ceremonial role for the company in royal occasions.
