Thomas Earle, sculptor, Kingston upon Hull

The Earle and the Keyworth families are responsible for most of the public and monumental sculptures to be found in the city.

Thomas Earle (1810-1876) was the son of John Earle (1779-1863), stonemason, sculptor and architect, and grandson of George Earle (1748-1827), stonemason, to whom he was initially apprenticed. He produced many sculptures and grave monuments of which the following are located in his home town:

Queen Victoria, statue, Pearson Park
Prince Albert, statue, Pearson Park
Oceanus, statue, Trinity House chapel (exterior), originally on top of Trinity Almshouses, Posterngate
Thomas Ferres, plaster model of memorial, Trinity House chapel
Dr John Alderson, statue, City Hall
Earl of Zetland, statue, Minerva Hall
King Edward I, statue, the Guildhall (foot of the staircase)
Nos. 1-9 Whitefriargate, pediment with Rococo cartouche flanked by sea gods
Himself, monument of his own design, Holy Trinity Church
