Buchanan House / Scotrail House
The 1975 building was extended to 17,500m² and refurbished in 2002. The structure was subsequently plagued with problems which resulted in disputes between the owners, tenants and the reconstruction company. This resulted in further cladding and re-cladding work over the following years in an attempt to bring the building up to an acceptable standard.
The building was last occupied in 2022 and lay vacant until demolition began in early 2025.
The site is now earmarked for housing, with 594 apartments and supporting amenities planned over a number of buildings which will range from 12 to 21 storeys in height. The bronze, 1967 C-listed ‘Locomotion’ statue, designed by Frank Cossell, will be retained within the new development.
