The Wombourne Branch Railway
The Great Western Railway branch line from Wolverhampton to Stourbridge Junction (via Wombourne) was a failure. It was originally intended to run it to Bridgnorth. Because of interruptions for the World War I, it took twelve years to build, yet following its completion in 1925, it only served passengers for seven years, and eventually closed for freight in June 1965.
There is public footpath access all the way now between Tettenhall and Pensnett, some of it having nature reserve status, such as the South Staffordshire Railway Walk between Castlecroft and Wall Heath, and Smestow Valley Nature Reserve, from Tettenhall to Compton.
