Shared description
Zoological Gardens, Kingston upon Hull
Opening in 1840 and closing in 1861, the gardens were situated on the north side of Spring Bank, between what is now housing on Peel Street and Morpeth Street. Today, the former gardens are commemorated by The Polar Bear public house, No. 229 Spring Bank, Pearson's Bar, No. 6A Princes Avenue, originally built circa 1994 as the Old Zoological public house, two statues in Albany Street, and the Elephant Walk, a series of animals in stone pavers between Pryme Street and Spring Bank.
