Police Service in Kingston upon Hull

There was rudimentary policing of the town by 1701. A unified force was established in 1836, with stations in Blanket Row and Jarratt Street. In 1852, the Kingston upon Hull Corporation acquired Charity Hall, a former workhouse, for a new station, with its entrance in Parliament Street. A new central station was built in Alfred Gelder Street in 1904 which, in turn, was replaced by a new headquarters building in Queen’s Gardens in 1959, becoming the base of the city's Humberside Police operations in 1974 until its closure for redevelopment in 2013.
