Its origins lay with the philanthropic activities of two prominent businessmen - Christopher Pickering: Link and Thomas Ferens: Link who each built almshouses in the early 1900s. The Trusts merged and in 1992 became ‘Pickering and Ferens Homes’ Almshouse Charity. It provides accommodation and services predominantly for residents aged over 60 years old with a particular social value emphasis on health and well-being in later life.
