Torr Vale Mills

Torr Vale Mills is a cotton spinning and weaving factory in New Mills, Derbyshire. Built in 1790 and in its original use until 2000, it is believed to be the longest-operating such facility in Britain. It is listed grade II* for reasons including 'extensive evidence for both water- and steam-powered phases of manufacture', and 'manufacturing processes and power transmission having been adapted to the constraints of the steeply sided valley it sits within'. Some of the buildings are now derelict, but others are in a variety of commercial uses.

About shared descriptions

These Shared Descriptions are common to multiple images.

For example, you can create a generic description for an object shown in a photo, and reuse the description on all photos of the object. All descriptions are public and shared between contributors, i.e. you can reuse a description created by others, just as they can use yours.
