Railway arches, Belfast
I suppose that anybody under 50 might (if they even gave the matter a second thought) wonder why there are so many railway arches at May’s Meadow when the railway is just two lines. The answer is that the area was once the site of extensive goods sidings (closed in 1963) handling, inter alia, livestock, coal and sand. I remember them still in place but overgrown. They remained so until removed when the line was rebuilt and re-opened. Late 2010 saw a proposal to convert them for community use.
