Hawkhurst

Hawkhurst is a large village / small town centred around the A268/A229 junction in Kent. The village dates back to at least Saxon times. Hawkhurst was a centre for the Wealden Iron industry from Roman times to the Industrial revolution. The village was the headquarters of the infamous "Hawkhurst Gang" in the 18th century, a group of smugglers. 1 km south of the present centre is The Moor, this area is the oldest part of the village and includes the Parish Church.
