Pollarding

Pollarding is a pruning system in which the upper branches of a tree are removed, promoting a dense head of foliage and branches. It is similar to coppicing, but carried out higher in the tree. It has been a common practice since medieval times and is carried out today in urban areas, mainly to keep trees at the same height.
