St James' Church, Spilsby

Grade I listed. Original building 1349, the tower was added in 1529. The north aisle and Willoughby chapel are the earliest part of the church. The church had a chantry attached dedicated to the Holy trinity - this was made a college for a master and 12 chaplains by Lord Willoughby in 1349. It was closed during the reformation and the college was returned to Katherine Bertie. The Church was originally built in green sandstone, but cased in Ancaster stone in 19th C. It was rebuilt in 1879.
The church contains the tombs of the Willoughbys and Sir John Franklin.
