Tomb of John Heneage & wife, Hainton church

John Heneage (of Benniworth) (c.1485 - 1557) son of John Heneage of Nocton and Catherine Wymbish. Married Anne Cope (a widow, daughter of John Cope, and they had 2 daughters and 3 sons, the eldest was Sir George Heneage.
He was MP for Grimsby and worked closely with his father, a lawyer. He acted as a surveyor for the suppression of the monasteries, and in 1536 he was seized by an armed mob in the Lincolnshire rebellion, but managed to escape. He purchased church lands and properties in Northants, Lincoln and London - he held some eight or ten properties between Louth and Market Rasen.
