Deal pier
The current pier was built in 1957, a concrete clad steel framed 311m long structure, with a three tiered head. The lowest tier is underwater except at low tides. The middle tier a decked fishing area, and on the main level a café and terrace. The café was built in 2008.
There have been two previous piers. The first, a wooden structure, built in 1838 and destroyed by a gale in 1857. The second, an iron pier built in 1864 eventually was destroyed by a mined Dutch ship during WWII in January 1940.
