Holy Trinity Church, Hastings
The church was built in 1857 in the Gothic style of Early English or Decorated period, by S. S. Teulon (1812-1872) He was also responsible for nearby Netherfield church TQ7218 : Netherfield Church and many others.
The land was originally reclaimed from the sea, and the streets of Victorian Hastings grew in the area around the church. The site was oddly shaped, and the church is designed to fit in with a single south aisle.
The church has a steeply pitched tile roof with a nave, south aisle with six bay arcade with a lady chapel at the east end, chancel and vestry. There are two gables to the west end. The organ is supported on small arches with the lady chapel underneath.
On the east end of the south aisle, beyond the lady chapel is a large entrance porch, it has a heavy traceried tympanum with a large sign of the Trinity. A tower was designed to be built on the porch but was not executed.
The chancel arch was carved by Thomas Earp. There is also a marble and alabaster pulpit with a double staircase.
The church was consecrated in 1882 A small hexagonal vestry to the east of the chancel was built in 1892. A war memorial on the west end was dedicated in 1920.
