Carre Memorial, St Andrew's church :: Shared Description
Memorial to Lady Bridget Carre, née Chaworth, 1542 - 1621. Her parents were Sir John Chaworth (d.1558) and Mary Paston (d.1583), his second wife. Her sister was Eleanor Paston, who married Thomas Manners, 1st Earl of Rutland. See SK8039 : Tomb of 1st Earl of Rutland, St Mary's church, Bottesford.
Bridget married William Carre of Sleaford, who predeceased her in 1608. She was Chamberer ("a gentlewoman of Her Majesties Privye Chamber") for Elizabeth I and Anne of Denmark, wife of James I.
Sadly there is some damage to the memorial; to her mouth, and her left index finger and thumb are missing.
Her sister Katherine Quarles erected the monument.
