Shared description
John Musgrave Heritage Trail
A 35 mile long route around Torbay, created by the Torbay Coast and Countryside Trust in partnership with the Ramblers Association, from a legacy left by John Musgrove who was a keen walker, the trail takes in a large section of south Devon’s scenic and varied landscape.
It links the existing Dart Valley Trail, Torbay Totnes Trail, Torbay Dart Link and South West Coast Path with new sections of path to create one complete route through Teignbridge, Torbay and South Hams. A longer, complete circuit could be made by returning on the Coast Path through Torbay.
The route explores over 40 of South Devon's finest heritage features and is suitable for all types of walker, from the gentle stroller to the experienced rambler. In just a few footsteps the route moves from urban life to rural landscape, and takes in woodland, farmland, Country Park and coastline.
The trail is divided into four individual sections ending at Cockington, Totnes, Dittisham, and Brixham and each section is accompanied by a series of interpretation boards.
From the start the full trail passes the Valley of the Rocks to reach Watcombe, going inland to skirt behind the suburban areas of Torbay visiting Kingerswell, Cockington, Marldon and passing Berry-Pomeroy Castle to reach Totnes, returning to the coast initially on paths coincident with the Dart Valley Trail, crossing to Churston Ferrers and going on its short final coastal section coincident with the South West Coast Path.
