Tonbridge Cemetery

Tonbridge Cemetery was opened in 1858 by the Tonbridge Town Council and the Tonbridge Burial Board, the land having been purchased in two parcels in 1856/57. The total area of the Cemetery is 14 hectares with approximately 14,000 grave spaces.
The two Chapels within the Cemetery were built in the 1860's and originally one Chapel was for the Anglican Church and the other Chapel was for the Roman Catholic Church. The two Chapels have now been combined and one is retained as an inter-denominational Chapel, and the other is now a storeroom.
In more recent times, a new Memorial Garden has been erected containing vaults for the interment of ashes and vase/plaques for memorials. There is also a rose garden for the scattering of ashes and a memorial wall where bronze plaques are fitted as a memorial.
