St Michael's church, Stragglethorpe
Grade I listed
The church is now redundant and in the care of the Historic Churches Preservation Trust. It dates from the 11th and 12th century onwards. There is a nave and chancel under a single roof with north aisle and south porch. It is built of coursed rubble and ashlar with a plain tiled roof. The west gable wall has buttresses and a large late 12th century buttress. There is a double arched bellcote at the west end.
The nave has a late 12th century two Bay north arcade with round arches and octagonal piers. The west wall has a blocked 11th century triangular headed doorway. There is also part of an 11th century pillar piscina in the chancel.
There is a drum shaped 11th century font with blind arcading.
The church contains early 18th-century box pews with a large family pew and double-decker pulpit.
There is a monument to Richard Earl of 1697 by Green of Camberwell in black and white marble with two busts, topped with urns. The monument once had a cherub sat on the plinth of the Memorial but it has recently been removed and its whereabouts is unknown.
