Royal Victoria Park
Opened as Royal Victoria Gardens by the London County Council in the 1890s on land which had been acquired for a public park with funds raised through public subscription. The land was formerly part of the ancient manor of Hammarsh, owned by Westminster Abbey for some 800 years and largely used for grazing from the late Middle Ages onwards.
