The Eight Bells
On the corner of Park Street (formerly Duck Lane) and Fore Street The Eight Bells is a Grade II Listed Public House probably 16th century with 19th century stucco and plaster front but reputed to have been established in 1266. The first recorded landlord is T Thickings in 1855. Undoubtedly the refuge of Bill Sikes TL2308 : Information Plaque on 'The Eight Bells'. In addition to Charles Dickens notorious 18th-century highwayman Dick Turpin, also frequented the pub, while in more recent times famous actors including Angelina Jolie and Russell Brand have been spotted here taking a break from filming at nearby Hatfield Hall.
