Cromford and High Peak Railway :: Shared Description

The Cromford and High Peak Railway linked the Cromford Canal with the Peak Forest Canal at Whaley Bridge. It was built to plug a gap in the national waterway network, creating a crucial link between the coalfields of Derbyshire and Nottinghamshire with the developing industries in and around Manchester. The line was closed in 1967.
